I am waaaaaay behind in my blog reading as I have been swamped with work, apologies. Hopefully I can catch up soon! I had a different plan for today's post, but you know what they say about the "best laid plans". So here is my very impromptu Halloween post. Enjoy!
Have no idea what this cat is supposed to be, but it was too funny to pass up.
Totally freaky
Also, totally freaky
LOVE this!!!
In poor taste, I know, but when has that stopped me before?
That is how training feels right now. I feel so relaxed and am loving all the drills I am doing in swimming, the new stuff Michelle has me doing with the running and strength training.....ah yes, my beloved strength training. I'm gearing up for another trail run this weekend if my husband makes it back from seeing GW (pronounced: dubya) in time...and I don't mean George Washington.
But how about some fun stuff? Like I melted my tea kettle
This is what happens when your tea kettle doesn't do the whistle thing anymore; you forget about it. Then the smoke alarm goes off and you are thinking, "WTF?" Then glance in the kitchen, on your way to wave the smoke away from said smoke alarm (which is only doing it's job perfectly), and notice the liquefying mass on your stove as expletives escape your lips. I'll be heating my water in the micowave until a suitable replacement can be found.
My recovery drink of choice
Although at the moment a nice shot of rum in hot cider takes the chill off.
My new superfood
Some nice whole grain bread, toasted. Grate an apple and throw it in a pan with some butter (or not, or Olivio, which is what I use), add some cinnamon and heat to warm. Throw it on the toast and voila!! So yummy.
Navel ring back in now that the season is over
Ain't she purdy?
Extracurricular activities are underway
City Planning
Quadrilla...I think I enjoy this more than my son.
I've been trying to find someone to train with over the long winter, but I have some trouble approaching people I don't know and I am kind of anxious about how I will stack up compared to them; will I hold them back on the run? Will they have to rescue me in the pool? Will they have to pull me on every ride? Sigh.....However, I finally found something that will help me get over this self doubt...
I am 43 years old. I have lived in NYC for 21 years. That is longer than I have lived anywhere in my entire life. I guess you could say I am a city girl, although I would probably deny it. I married myself a city boy, born and bred. However, we love the country. I grew up in upstate NY; lots of country.....lots of hills. We have friends who have a second place not far from where I grew up and we spent the weekend up there with them.
This is more of a weekend in pictures with a little narration lower down on my 6 mile trail run up there; my legs are still talkin' to me.
Is anyone old enough to remember "Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots?
"Please don't let the animals out, no matter what they tell you." Love it.
Someone got their first horse ride!!
I set out on my first real trail run while visiting with our friends. One of them had done the NYC Marathon last year so had done a lot of training on these roads over the weekends so he gave me a 6 mile route. It was hilly and my legs were screaming by the end, but I managed to get it all done and I loved it!! You need to click on this panoramic shot, so beautiful. The weather was perfect and I think I saw 2 cars the whole time, sweet. I tried out a new pair of trail shoes that I will give an informal review on later......the spoiler is I liked them a lot.
The surface for most of the run
Good thing I was wearing this color, it was hunting season and I had to take a roadside potty break
