This & That

Just some crap that has been in my head...

*Chocolate sprinkles don't really taste like chocolate.

*My max speed at the NYC Tri was 37 MPH

*On Friday my son wanted a dog, on Sunday he wanted a brother (as if).

*I am reading a book called Olive Kitteridge, by Elizabeth Stout (thanks to my literary goddess friend Susie, who's booklist on FB I scanned for ideas). So far, so good.

*When I did my 1:30 run on Saturday it was 95˚F with a heat index of 102˚F, I drank 56 oz. of fluid (3.5 lbs) and I thought I was going to barf at the end.

*My cold water tap in my shower and tub at it's coldest setting comes out lukewarm. It is like torture after a long, hot run. Ice baths are stuff of fairy tales in my house; the water melts an entire bag of ice in no time flat and it is still not cold.

*I have my 25th class reunion in less than two weeks. I went to the 10th, but not the 20th and yes, I am that old.

*In truth, I am looking forward more to swimming in the lake and riding the country roads more than I am my reunion.

*A further truth, I am looking forward more to having a weekend away from my husband and son than I am to swimming in the lake and riding the country roads.

*I'm not sure why I bother to speak; no one I live with seems to pay attention to anything I say.

*I am tired.

*I have three races left for the 'season': 5k, sprint tri, HIM. I'm sure there will be other races out of 'season' if my coach has anything to say about it.

*I have no desire to do an IM. However, I will be putting my name in for the NYC Marathon lottery for 2011. I used to say I would never do a marathon.

*I can never seem to come up with a good idea for a blog post. Then I read someone's post who has had a good topic and I think, "Why can't I think of something like that?"

*How in the hell do people score free shit to test? Do you just ask for it?

*I have a 4 year old, but I do not speak '4 year old'. I had to buy a book about anatomy geared at a 4 year old, since said 4 year old was continually asking me why I pee out my butt. I should have just locked the bathroom door. Oh, right, it doesn't have a lock.

*You know that movie Kindergarten Cop? This morning my sitter arrived and my son says, "Boys have penises and girls have vaginas." I am so proud.

*I need to dye my grays and get a hair cut.

*I really want to cut my hair short. My husband says he will divorce me.

* My bike started making this knocking sound on my ride on Sunday. I can't figure out where it is coming from. Somewhere in the rear (pedaling or coasting I get the sound). My husband thinks it might be the bearings in the hub. There are bearings in the hub?

*I use diaper cream as one might use butt butter. Infinitely cheaper and I have tons of leftovers lying around (I particularly like Balmex or Boudreaux's Butt Paste-this one is a little on the thick side, but stays put and has a slightly, refreshing tingly sensation, oh my!)

*I found a new podcast today, Stuff Mom Never Told You (from the folks at How Stuff Works).

*I got new dishes, which I did not design myself.

*I am doing some artwork for a line of note cards for Crane & Co.

Go for the dog rather than the brother. ;-)

It was soooooo much hotter in NYC than it is back here at home in the high desert of central NM. Crazy. Don't know how you can run in that weather

I didn't go to my 25th class reunion.

I am certain that one of the ways one scores free stuff to test is to make your email available on your blog - yours is hidden - they can't get ahold of you that way. Sure, I managed to find an email address, but I have super powers ;-)

You are right about chocolate sprinkles. And like Anne Marie said, I think you had a great post topic, why didn't I think of that??? I don't do reunions. I went to my tenth and it sucked. Dog over baby brother for sure. AND I know what you mean about wondering why you speak sometimes! I feel the same way. And let me know what you find out about testing stuff, I want to do that!

- I have wondered the same thing about free stuff, I never get asked to do that. But I also wondered if I did a give away, will I get get 20 new followers who will never return to my blog after the contest, I love my faithful ones that stop by for the heck of it.

- Yes your hub has bearings, one of two things, the bearings are wearing out or you hit a bump and it knocked the hub loose, just take it to your LBS to make sure.

I love reading all of the random stuff. :)
I cut my hair short once and regretted it the next day! I am definitely a pony tail girl and it drove me CRAZY until it grew out. I will never cut it short again!

I cut my hair short many years ago and I liked that it was easy to wash and style, however I realized I had to get haircuts way more often because it would quickly get out of control (as opposed to now which is 2-3x a year). Also, when I did decide to grow it out again it result in years of awkardness...

I hate this weather. However, it is supposed to be a high of 80 on Saturday and Sunday. Woohoo! Sweet relief.

When it comes to testing gear out, this is the blog that comes to mind.

Our tap water is always luke warm. Ugh. I freeze water in tupperware containers to make huge ice cubes that don't melt as fast. Helps with the ice baths. :)

First its the HIM, then its the Marathon, then it will be the Ironman. Just let it marinade in the back of your brain. Eventually one day the desire will burn bright :)

Have you seen "Inception" yet? Having seen it will make you understand the above ;)

About ice baths, I do what Michelle does.
About free stuff- I got contacted a few times, some of the time I refuse, like the CNS giveaway (what do those have to do with running?).
About another kid -- yes, a dog, if you have to.
About short hair - who cares what your husband thinks?
About no one listening - I know:)
About 4 y old obsessions with body parts - I don't even have the guts to write them in my blog
NYC marathon - I am qualified for 2011, just not sure if I am into marathons anymore, weird, ha?
About IM - I might want to do Lake Placid sometime
Great post:)

Chica,

Don't cut your hair. I like mine so much better now that it is longer after having it short for 11 years. Yeah it is hot and a hassle, but the men love the long hair.

I also listen to Stuff Your Mother Never Told You. Those gals are great!
