The Cool of the Pool

So, (why is it I always insist on starting sentences with "so", it's so annoying) I've been in LA since Monday night. Yesterday we just ran around grocery shopping, buying a new car seat for my son (he has reached maximum capacity in the old one), who will now be known to you as "Baby Toots". After some thought, I figured it was best not to use his real name (it has been changed in previous posts), as I do live in a town with a lot of sketchy characters. Amongst these are the possibly weird guys that have been passing out balloons at the local playgrounds, or at least that is what I have read through some emails that have come my way. Haven't seen them myself, but one can never be too careful, so I'll use his nickname.

Today, ah today was the day. "In the heat of the day, in the cool of the pool", a saline pool! (upon further investigation, I may be wrong about this. This pool was salty and not anything like the chlorinated pools I swim in at home and it "tasted" salty; I must ask upon my return)

Culver City Municipal Plunge

My sister was kind enough to find a local pool for me to go to while staying at her place. The local "Municipal Plunge", as it is called, is so superior to any (outdoor) pool that we have in NYC, it is staggering. It was 1.5 miles from her house, I was jonesing to run there, but the PT said no running for two weeks, so we both walked there. That is saying a lot considering how much of a car culture it is out here. At home, while we do own a car, we walk everywhere, and if it's too far to walk you take the subway or bus, but I digress.

In my tri next month, I am not wearing a wetsuit, so I am rethinking my tri attire. Based on this I decided to wear a one piece suit with a sport bra underneath for today's swim, which worked out rather well. Once we got to the pool and jumped in, I was like, hmmm, this water tastes salty....OMG! This is a saline pool! (again, I hope I am right about this, but I have been known to be wrong, although rarely....ha!) My joy could not be contained. I was so thrilled, I decided right then and there we must move to CA. My enthusiasm waned a bit as I swam, so we are not moving, but it was such a lovely swim. I don't remember ever being this happy after a swim unless it was because I was happy it was over. I told my sis, "I am officially jealous that you have this pool right here, so close, so you better start using it or else!" Can't wait to swim there again.

In case you were wondering, because I know the suspense has been killing you, yes, my son loves his new car seat. It has a cup holder, which he was insistent about and also some nice little compartments in the handle for stowing some small toys. The most likely stowed objects will be one of the many cars in his vast armada of die cast vehicles.

I love salt water pools! We actually built one when we built our home; but filled it in last year (long story). When they are built properly, they are VERY nice. Love the silky smooth feel of the water. :o)

Glad you are having a GREAT time in LA LA Land!

Salt water pools are so much nicer to swim in. A lot of our public pools out here are. You don't smell chlorinated for the rest of the day.

Yes, saline pools rock! We have one at home (though it's too small to do laps) but all the ones I've swam in are much more pleasant because they seem to be less chlorinated (really they're not but the chlorine is different because the source is different).

Enjoy your visit with sis!
